Dame Kelly Holmes
“In my own life I have always tried to achieve something. It’s what makes me tick. I still take it day by day but I never thought I’d end up as president of such an organisation or chair my own charity, let alone become a dame.”
Dame Kelly Holmes, Double Olympic Gold Medalist.
A few weeks ago I heard our much loved British athlete, Kelly Holmes, talking on the radio about motivation. She was, as ever inspirational. Her journey to her dream has not been easy. Amongst the many battles she has had to face was serious depression. One of her main pieces of advice was to continually set small goals in line with your dreams. This didn’t surprise me as this habit is one that builds Super Confidence.
However, I know only too well how easy it is to lose sight of our goals amidst the stresses and strains of everyday life. And, when we surface and have a moment to notice what has happened, we commonly start beating ourselves up for failing to keep up with our resolutions. So, I thought this beautiful Spring month would be a great time to focus on goal setting.
Here’s your challenge:
1. Choose one of your life dreams to focus on this month. Write or type it out in one of your favourite colours. Embellish the page with some illustration or an inspirational photo. Put this page somewhere in your home, office, computer or mobile where you will see it frequently.
2. Each day for the rest of this month, take a mini-step towards achieving this goal. This could be for example, making a phone call, researching something on the internet or in the library or asking for advice. Make sure your task is not too time consuming or stress provoking.
3. Keep a record of these daily steps and then, at the end of the month, review them. If possible, share your achievement with a loved one or a supportive colleague. This should give your confidence an inspirational boost.
lots of luck and enjoy Spring!
